born in northern japan she didn't grow up in a traditional way, but she always admired the old ways and committed them to her heart. she took university classes in pedagogics but since the age of three her greatest love was music, especially singing and playing the piano.

in 1980 chizuru shirato san went to vienny to study opera. eight years later she met her husband and ended her career, but continued to give private lessons for singers and piano players. after some time in koblenz she came to berlin in 1989 and met serpil kurum in a fu sui class.

inspired by fu sui and chizuru shirato san's plan to start a japanese catering service they developed the idea of a sushi restaurant: soon "goko" was born. there is another strong connection between chizuru san and the goko restaurant: her little daughter was born just days after the opening.
